Roat Osha

Minneapolis Uptown has its fair share of trendy eateries that also please the palate and Roat Osha is certainly one among the finer examples. The elegant decor, huge windows that allow an abundance of natural light, superbly warm service and ample seating make for a pleasant first impression. What will get you hooked though are the delicious Thai dishes they serve.

Roat Osha has a wide selection of soups, though these can be asked for by the bowl only if you're there for lunch. If you're there for dinner, they're served family style. The flavors of lemon grass and other Thai herbs in the Tom Yum will tantalize your taste buds but be very cautious about the spice level if you're not comfortable with a lot of heat.

The Fresh Salad Rolls or the Som Tam (papaya salad) are a great way to cleanse your palate after the spicy soups. Mint and lettuce add a nice crunch to the salad rolls and when teamed with the peanut sauces they're served with, they are quite a treat. Cream Cheese and Jalapeno Wontons is a good choice if you're not too concerned about the calories.

True to their Thai roots, the curries don't disappoint. Bursting with flavor and complete with the perfect consistency and with the veggies cooked just right, they are something I ask for every single time I'm there. Vegetarians be aware though: they cannot be made without the fish sauce. The Green Curry is the hottest among the lot because of the green chilies that are an important part of the base, so if you generally go with a spice level 3, you might want to go down a notch. The Massaman Curry is ideal for potato lovers though the Red Curry is generally what I go for.

If spice is what you prefer, try the Sriracha-based dishes. Roat Osha's version of the Sriracha sauce is lip smacking and can be teamed with whatever combination of meats or vegetables you wish. A good accompaniment to the meal would be the Chicken Pad Thai (above) or the Pad See Ew.

While most of their entrĂ©es can be enjoyed perfectly well with jasmine rice, the fried rice varieties (Sriracha fried rice, basil fried rice or regular fried rice are my recommendations) are not to be missed.

The service at Roat Osha deserves a mention. I've been to this restaurant many, many times with family as well as with friends and every single time, it's been a memorable experience. And a huge part of the reason is the personalized, warm and friendly service. They're ever ready with a smile or a funny comment, attentive to the diners' needs and yet never overbearing.

If you're there in the summer, make a reservation or get there early in order to land a table in their outdoor deck. The restaurant is equipped with a full bar which gets pretty busy in the evenings. The restaurant is slightly on the pricey side but is well worth it. A Thai meal really doesn't get any better than this.

I hope this restaurant review helps!
