Located just a couple of blocks from Lake Calhoun on Lake Street, Amore Victoria Ristorante is a quaint neighborhood gem. The restaurant embodies the warmth and feel of old-world Italian charm while sporting a casual vibe.
Happy Hour is the best time to visit, when the restaurant is bustling with after-work crowd. Given the $3 house wines and tap beers, $5 carprese, fried calamari, bruschetta, spinach and artichoke dips or 1 topping pizzas, and $7 house martinis, can you blame them?
If you happen to be there for dinner, my suggestion is to skip the pizzas. The toppings are often raw and leave you with a tummy ache. Pastas are my recommendation. An option is to pick your sauce from the options of marinara, bolognese, white clam or meatballs with sauce etc. and couple it with the pasta of your choice.
The Penne alla' Arrabbiata which is made with virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, kalamata olives, pepperoncinis, capers, a touch of marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese is among the best dishes on their menu. Another delicious preparation is the Fusilli Milli Gusti - rotini pasta prepared in a creamy garlic Bolognese sauce, with fresh zucchini, asparagus, peas, walnuts, mushrooms, red peppers, kalamata olives, capers, carrots, and prosciutto and then baked with mozzarella.
If you're looking for something traditional, the Lasagne made with layers of pasta, fluffy ricotta, mounds of beef and mozzarella cheese and served atop our Bolognese sauce or the Fettucine Alfredo will not disappoint.
A dish to avoid unless you really and truly enjoy eggplants is the Eggplant Florentine that is layers of eggplant breaded and deep-fried, then baked to a finish with a wine, lemon and butter sauce, ricotta cheese and mushrooms. Topped with melted mozzarella and served over a bed of pasta and spinach. Instead you may want to try the Gnocchi Pomodoro - Homemade Italian potato dumplings sauteed in virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, and basil, with fresh diced tomatoes or the Ravioli Emiliani - Four ravioli sauteed in herb butter, with shiitake mushrooms and button mushrooms, then blended in a creamy plum tomato sauce. Mushroom lovers will really enjoy the Mushroom Passion - Porcini, portabella, shiitake, and button mushrooms tossed in a balsamic cream sauce and served over angel hair.
Amore Victoria Ristorante also serves some melt-in-your-mouth desserts. The Tiramisu and the Spumoni would be my recommendations, though pretty much everything on their menu will appeal to your sweet tooth.
I hope this restaurant review helps!
