Masa

I'm a sucker for roasted corn so any restaurant that does a good version of that is a winner in my books. Masa's version is quite different from the steamed corn that most places try to pass off as roasted corn. This one is actually blackened and then rolled in mayonnaise and cotija cheese and finished with cayenne pepper and lime. It'll have you hooked in the first bite.

The restaurant, owned by D'Amico and Partners, is like their other eateries - a rare mix of upscale yet down to earth. There is almost always a wait time so it might be a good idea to make a reservation. Either that or grab a drink at their busy bar. The tables are closely arranged but for some reason, there's still not a loud din. It's possible to engage in conversation with your friends while appreciating the lively atmosphere around you. Prices are on the high side and portion sizes are not what you might expect from a Mexican restaurant. But then again, Masa is certainly not your regular tex-mex joint. This contemporary Mexican restaurant prides itself in serving authentic delicacies (where's the mole though?) and even has a glossary at the end of their menu explaining various ingredients.

The menu is overwhelmingly non-vegetarian though veggie versions of most dishes are made. For dinner, the chef also whips up a veggie platter which features seasonal items.

The service is exceptionally warm and this is a great place to for a special celebration. If only they were open for lunch on weekends.
